Kokoda Residences, Waitara

Winner of the 2023 UDIA Award for Excellence in Retirement Living, Kokoda Residences is a newly established unique and exclusive independent seniors living opportunity for the North Shore. 117 residential apartments are located over 12 levels in the centre of Waitara and adjacent to the park that the Mark Taylor oval is located on. 

Taylor Brammer Landscape Architects collaborated with the expert design team to deliver a design that epitomises the health and well-being benefits of an integrated lifestyle community resort. Contemporary living standards originate within a lush tropically themed landscape setting that is inspired by the values of Mrs Jessie Vasey, the war widow of Major General George Vasey a World War II veteran of the New Guinea campaign. 

A feature of the landscape design is the central green oasis that provides residents, families and their guests with a range of contemporary outdoor passive and social recreational opportunities. Wrapped by a structural pergola draped in cascading planting, the design epitomises the warmth of nature made accessible through the complex. This design approach complements the cascading planters that are located on the 12 floors, wrapping the residential households in nature.
