The University of New South Wales implemented their Pocket Placemaking projects in 2019 to enable the UNSW community and visitors to navigate the campus intuitively, with landmarks and pleasant environments that encourage people to dwell and engage with the public realm.

Three pocket sites form this project with the objectives of:

a) Transforming dull underutilised spaces into functional and interesting places,

b) Providing places for student needs such as outdoor learning and collaboration,

c) Enhancing campus wayfinding by creating describable places.

The contemplative garden is a quiet place with natural materials and lush plantings in an otherwise brick environment. The performance space uses colour to reinvigorate a hard-edged concrete place. Wenham Green reinvents an existing garden with water and natural timbers to make it a destination rather than a transitory place.
