The landscape design evoking the warmth of nature is an integral part of the successful implementation of the Salvation Army’s holistic caring approach to create a homely, familiar and locale specific aged care facility. The design team has successfully fulfilled the Salvation Army’s objective to create a familiar Northern Beaches specific residential home with a centralised vibrant hub that fosters a sense of community, the planting, water features, practice putt putt, coffee shop, chapel and shade elements contributing to the caring environment. To achieve this, the entire facility is centred on an internal pedestrian “Street” where residents of several “homes” are encouraged to congregate and communicate with residents, staff and visiting family members. Secluded seating nooks surrounded by lush northern beaches planting and a materials palette complement the natural tones of the locale. At the heart of each of the home clusters in the development is a unique and memorable landscape treatment providing opportunities for resident, staff and family visitor activity and engagement with the continuing northern beaches theme.
