Known as the "eye of the harbour" by the indigenous people of Australia, Goat Island has had a chequered history as a gunpowder magazine, boat and ship repair, residential enclave and as a convict gaol. This history is reflected in the many layers evident on the island. Landscape conservation services were provided to create clear and easily accessible guidelines in the ongoing management of the site that respects the many heritage layers of this unique place.
