Collaroy House, Collaroy

Guringai Country

This beautiful residential house and garden is located approximately 200 metres from the water on Sydney’s northern beaches. The house is designed to open up and connect to the garden on all levels.

The entry to the house is revealed as you walk past a lush vertical garden and arrive at a planted entry court and running water. Views are open to the eastern courtyard with its reflection pond and pared back planting to enjoy the sandstone façade of the building.

The mid level of the house opens to the play lawn and swimming pool. Plantings at this level screen views to the neighbours and gravitate to a green roof that forms a continuous green edge to the building. From the living spaces it appears that the garden laps at the edge of the building.

The street frontage is and exercise in restrained colour with a play on various textures and leaf forms.

Paving materials throughout are a natural stone and gravel to complement the architecture and be “barefoot friendly”.

This garden is a very relaxed place with plant selection inspired by the clients’ love of south east Asian landscapes that is carefully arranged to create strong simple patterns.
