How do you turn a much unloved open space above a carpark into a dynamic and contemporary environment that meets the evolving needs of the community? By creating a smart, accessible and bright contemporary destination framed by layered existing urban fabric the park has been re imagined as urban park haven.
Located in a fine grained urban environment in a mix of inner city residential and offices, the park represented a unique opportunity to turn this underused open space into a vibrant ecological destination. The design facilitated an ease of access, places towalk and relax, pick up a coffee and opportunities sit under the filtered light of the existing luxuriant figtrees. Existing air vent ducts from the carpark under created opportunities for public art, with stainless steel leaves flowing across the contrasting coloured painted forms that contrast to the timber and concrete seating pods, pre cast concrete panels and textural and variegated planting that highlight the contemporary forms.
